About

The graphic design studio »cyan« was established in 1992 by Daniela Haufe and Detlef Fiedler in Berlin. It specialises in visual identities for cultural and public institutions (advertising campaigns, posters, books, magazines, websites etc.) and visual presentation strategies for exhibitions and performances (exhibition design, set design, multimedia works, picture editing). Cyan’s designs have received numerous awards and have been published in specialist journals and books worldwide.

Detlef Fiedler (Germany, 1955) studied architecture in Weimar. After his studies he worked as a gardener and later as a garden architect. In 1987, he moved to East Berlin and worked as a graphic designer. Two years later he and four other designers founded Grappa, the first graphic design group in the GDR. From 1991 to 1996 he was co-editor of the critical design magazine form+zweck (form+purpose). As a member of the dance company Toula Limnaios he created several films and videos that were projected on stage. From 1996 to 2006 he taught as a professor of graphic design at the Academy of Visual Arts, Leipzig.

Daniela Haufe (Germany, 1966) was trained as a manual typesetter and worked as a typographer at a state publishing house in East Germany. In 1988 she started studying graphic design in Berlin, and was strongly engaged in the civil movement for more democracy. After the Wall came down she cancelled her studies and joined the group Grappa. In 1992 she and Detlef Fiedler left the group to found Cyan. From 1991 to 1995 she was co-editor of the critical design magazine form+zweck (form+purpose). As a member of the dance company Toula Limnaios she created several films and videos that were projected on stage. From 1996 to 2006 she taught as a professor of graphic design at the Academy of Visual Arts, Leipzig.
